I follow the Mother Nature Network (MNN) on my RSS and today I saw an article on how Victoria’s Secret is considering developing bras for breast cancer survivors. This makes me so happy. Throughout my life I’ve been fortunate enough not to know anyone who has dealt with this disease; however for someone who truly appreciates boobies, I couldn’t imagine going through with a mastectomy. For those who don’t know what that is, according to Medline Plus it’s a “surgery to remove a breast. It is performed either to treat or to prevent breast cancer.”
Usually after said surgery many women have a certain breast reconstruction. This is where Allana Maiden and her mother, Debbie Barrett, come in. Maiden began a petition on change.org and now has 120,117 signatures.
There are so many women out there, like my mom, who have survived breast cancer but are left feeling altered and uncomfortable because of undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. I think they deserve to feel beautiful and Victoria’s Secret is the perfect company to help make that happen with a line of “Survivor” mastectomy bras.
Everyone deserves to feel beautiful, especially those who have gone through such an ordeal such as breast cancer. If you have a minute to spare, go and sign the petition. Nobody should ever feel like their less than perfect. Nobody deserves to feel anything less than confident about themselves.
